5 Bucket List Items for Your Last College Semester

By Elizabeth Hilfrank on January 7, 2018

If you are like me and about to enter your last college semester, then, like me, you are also probably panicking about the limited time left on campus. You have had four years to do all sorts of different activities, yet all of a sudden you have no time left. So, to cure the anxiety, make a “last college semester bucket list” with your friends! And if you do not know where to start, here are some ideas:

1. Support Local Businesses

Have you and your friends always wondered about that one restaurant in town but never went in? Or maybe there is a store you’ve heard all about but never actually seen in person? Well, now is the time! Sadly, you do not know for sure when you will next be in this exact location, so best to go when the store is only a five-minute drive versus a five hour one. This is also a great time to do anything cheesy that may be special to your college community or anything that is really true to the town’s roots.

For example, I go to school where Civil War re-enactment is very prominent in town (Gettysburg, PA). So, attending a reenactment would be a bucket list item. Also, there are many wineries near my campus; and it seems like every senior girl posts a picture at one specific winery in the spring of senior year, so I have to add that winery to my last college semester bucket list as well. My college is also right next door to the apple capital of the country, so I better buy some apples, too.

2. Campus Superstitions/Traditions

Whether spoken or unspoken, there is probably something that goes on on your campus that every student “has” to do before graduating. I’ve heard of people stealing bricks from an old building at one school, lots of people jumping in fountains while others explore a not-so-secret spot on campus or in an academic building.

On my campus, it is common to see people testing how long they can sit in the dining hall before getting kicked out. While not a superstition enacted by the campus administration, everyone knows about it. I encourage you to take the risk and do the superstition or tradition (whatever you may want to call it) at your school because you may really regret it if you do not. I know I have all my campus superstitions on my last college semester bucket list.

3.  Freshmen Year Repeats

Remember that really fun/crazy thing you did your first year on campus? Maybe it was a place you went, an activity you were a part of, or a crazy concoction you made at the dining hall. Do it again! Of course, you don’t have to re-do all of your first year, when you were feeling everything out because let’s be honest, many mistakes were also made.

Nevertheless, I encourage you to do some things again that you have fond memories of, because why not? With this idea comes the recommendation for you to take a trip down memory lane. As in, go back and see your freshmen room, eat with your first-year roommates, visit old professors, and/or walk through all the places in town that hold special memories for you. Nostalgia is going to be prominent no matter what happens in your last college semester, so why not go all in?

4. Take Risks

Have you been debating joining a certain activity each year, but never have committed? Have you always wanted to join a club, but just never got around to it? Well, now is the time! In your last college semester, take time to think about what type of mark you want to leave on campus. Maybe it is community service, maybe it is something academic, something regarding an organization you are already in. Don’t worry about what other people think, but do what you want to do.

5. Stress Less

I cannot stress this enough, but in your last college semester, make sure to stress less! As much as you want to continue to do well in school, you should try to really find the balance between work and play. If your friends are doing something you really want to do, then just go! The work will get done if you balance correctly. Don’t spend your last semester locked up alone, but take time to be with people before you all possibly go what could be very separate ways. Forty years from now, chances are, you will remember the people you lived with more than you will remember the textbook page you read March 4.

Congratulations on making it this far, and enjoy your final semester with this bucket list in hand.
